A New York Week

Updated: Jan 30, 2020

In place of a New York minute, I'm taking you guys through a New York week. Now let's be clear that I'm only showing you what I think would be interesting to people viewing this post and that of course there were times throughout this week where I sat around and did absolutely nothing, was bored out of my mind, or even tearing up about my bank account continuously declining like my tan from the summer.

But nonetheless, here is what this past week in my life looked like (the cleverly curated version)

WEDNESDAY: I know, weird I'm starting this at a Wednesday but who cares I can do what I want

As the weather continues to transition into my favorite season of the year, autumn, I love going to the Union Square Farmers Market. I feel like a true adult buying produce and shit, it's funny that buying an apple on the street can make you feel 40.

Union Square puts on such an amazing market full of flowers, food, and other locally sourced vendors so if you find yourself in the New York area in need of any of the above, I definitely recommend giving it a visit on one of their days open (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.)

My roommate and I came across these beautiful flowers right before leaving and I purchased them instantly. Finally I was able to fulfill my New Yorker dream of carrying a bouquet of flowers down the city's streets. Something about flowers against all of the concrete brings out the romance of the city I think.

It was such a hot day this Wednesday so before going home we decided to stop for ICE CREAMMMMM. Let me tell YOU, if you are in need of some good ass ice cream, go to Venchi on Broadway, it is fan-spanking-tastic. The scoops are huge and not only do they have chocolate dripping from fountains where they dip your cones into, but their walls even drip chocolate. Incredible. That's all I have to say.

I mean you're kidding...

THURSDAY

Having a kitchen in your dorm is literally life changing. Last year I spent all my time in a dark box of a room without ever being able to make my own food. In appreciation for having a kitchen in my dorm this year, I decided to make dinner for all my roommates. The menu for this night was Thai food! I decided on making some chicken satay over coconut rice with some homemade peanut sauce. Other than the fact that I set the fire alarm off twice, approximately three minutes after one another, the dinner was pretty delicious.

FRIDAY: The weather this day was absolutely spectacular.

Since the weather was so beautiful this day, my friend Luci and I decided to take advantage of it and picnic in Central Park. Normally we picnic on the lawn but this time Luci discovered an amazing spot right in front of the Belvedere Castle. It's literally a little castle in the middle of Central Park that I had no idea of its previous existence, and boy was I missing out. We found a spot where the sun was shining over the pond in front of the castle and I felt like I was in a movie.

SATURDAY: Movie and more ice cream!

I'm constantly searching the internet trying to stay up to date on what's going on in the city. For Saturday I found that there was a movie under the stars in a park in the lower east side. I convinced all my friends that there was this ice cream place we HAD to stop at before the movie, and though they all claimed they weren't going to get anything, we all left with a cone in hand. The place we went to was Ice & Vice and it had such unique flavors, definitely a place to go back to. We took our cones to the park and watched Into the Spiderverse. The movie was super cute even though half way through a rat, yes a rat, literally ran 2 inches in front of us.

SUNDAY: self care Sundays am I right

On this fine Sunday I did around absolutely nothing. Laundry and relaxing was all I had on my agenda for the day. I ended it with watching Eat Pray Love which was newly added to Netflix and I cannot believe I had never watched it before. I got so inspired with traveling and all of the scenes in Italy that I literally got my ass up and poured myself a glass of wine to drink in bed. I felt like I was joining Julia Roberts and her Italian acquaintances.

MONDAY:

Mondays are my busiest school days so it really just consisted of me going to class and catching up on schoolwork. However I did start reading a new book and its the Tan France memoir, so far so good.

TUESDAY:

Tuesday I felt so inspired from the movie on Sunday that I walked all the way to Barnes in search of the book Eat Pray Love but it turned out to be $17 so I went home and bought it on Amazon for $7 instead :)

On my walk home I came across this Japanese market and couldn't help myself. I ended up dropping $20 on an assortment of Japanese treats that I had never seen before. I even got those yogurt drinks that were mentioned in To All the Boys I've Loved Before.

WEDNESDAY: Soho, Little Italy, and a longgg walk home

Here I am, a full week later and typing this post up as you read. Today I woke up at 9am all in order to get to Soho before 10 in order to buy the highly desired cronut of the month from Dominque Ansel Bakery, my favorite NY bakery. This month the flavor was plum & almond. It was every bit as delicious as the previous months. From there I strolled down the many streets of Little Italy for their annual Feast of San Grennaro. After smelling the countless amounts of pasta, pizza, and cannoli's, I made my way to Washington Square Park to enjoy the lovely fall weather by reading and people watching.
